Sustainability
At NØRSE, sustainability is not just a buzzword; it’s at the core of our coffee sourcing philosophy. We believe that the long-term economic, environmental, and social health of the coffee industry is vital for everyone involved.
Blockchain Technology
As NØRSE proudly uses Acacia Tree Farms for our grade one Ethiopian Harar coffee that goes into every NØRSE can, we are excited at the release of their blockchain app. Now you can trace back your can of NØRSE cold brew directly back to the farms. Blockchain plays a pivotal role in ensuring the sourcing, traceability and accountability throughout the entire supply chain.
Why sustainability matters to us:
Triple Bottom Line Approach
Sustainability, to us, means considering the triple bottom line: people, planet, and profit. It’s about meeting today’s needs without compromising the well-being of future generations. We strive to be responsible stewards of resources, ensuring that our children and grandchildren have what they need to thrive.
Economic Sustainability Promotes Social Well-Being
Coffee-producing communities were once able to provide for basic health and education needs. However, declining income and aggressive production systems have changed this landscape. Many farmers now earn less than they did decades ago. Our vision is to reverse this trend by promoting economic sustainability. When farmers earn a living income, thriving communities become the foundation for a diversified and growing industry.
Environmental Balance
We recognize that coffee cultivation impacts the environment. By cultivating coffee as a forest understory crop, we aim to maintain environmental balance. Our commitment to sustainable practices ensures that we protect biodiversity, soil health, and water resources.
Quality and Responsibility
Sustainability isn’t new to the coffee world. It’s been part of our conversations since the first international coffee agreement in 1962. As we source our coffee, we prioritize quality, fair wages, and environmental responsibility. Our commitment extends beyond profit margins; it’s about fostering a thriving industry that benefits everyone.
